DoubleDuck - Christmas Presents + Element 109

I am here to wish you a merry early Christmas, carrying a bag full of a few presents in the form of translations of the last DoubleDuck comic as of this time. This will be my last post of 2014, and after that, everything will change. Nothing shall ever be the same again.

Way to be overly dramatic. I'm probably just gonna poorly translate more shit. Have no great expectations for 2015. Just look forward to those new PK stories to come. And I'll probably go back to covering that reboot. Got like 12 issues left, should be able to manage that. Anyways, anyways...

One of the last stories of DoubleDuck actually happens to be a Christmas themed, or at least takes place around the Christmas times. It's not like the plot is about some villain trying to stop this festive event from coming. This story is a chunky 3-parter, download link is down below. Why am I telling you that like you don't know...

Tsk. Marco Mazarello, how fucking happy I am to see you draw DoubleDuck for the 100th time... I'm not tired of your style at all!

And while that story involves flashbacks of Kay K as a little girl, as well as family members of Kay K, this next story also involves that. Thus, it goes greatly along with the Christmas story, even though it has nothing to do with Christmas. And the art by Paolo De Lorenzi is most appreciated. It looks good, and it's different.

There. That's all the DoubleDuck there is. We've reached the temporary end. This will be a day of mourning for the further DoubleDuck that does not exist. And now I will actually be compelled to to other stuff. Some of you are probably rejoicing. That's cool. I love having a hateful relationship with you people.

I'm gonna take a moment for the sadness. You guys enjoy these last comics. These last comics. Until there's more in the future. Okay. Say goodbye to everyone, Kay K.

Well now everyone's just gonna be longing for you.

Hmm. I feel like there's something I should be ending his holiday post on. Something familiar. What was it again...

  1. Alright! Some DoubleDuck to finish 2014 in style! Thanks, man!

So hey, Banker... I'm not sure if you know this already, but oddly enough, there are some PKNA stories that were actually officially translated into Brazilian Portuguese... while North America has nothing like that so far. I know, it's weird. From what I've gathered, there are only 6 or 7 stories that were brought here to Brazil, so it's really nothing big or fair to those who want to see more of it, I must say, I'm glad these localizations exist in the first place. I probably would never have discovered PKNA if it weren't for the Disney Big issue with the Duck Avenger on the cover that I picked up out of curiosity, which contained a translation of PKNA #1 (Shadows on Venus). That comic showed me a new hero, completely different from the "played for laughs" kind of hero I once knew, and it made me want to know more about it, thus my research into PKNA, which eventually led to your blog (huge thanks for your translations, by the way; that was kind of you). So while I'm still upset that the U.S. are still oblivious to the awesomeness that is PK, I'm glad that Disney of Brazil cared for it enough to at least introduce me to the new and improved masked duck. Just an experience I wanted to share with you; you're free to disregard it if you don't care.

What you'll probably care about, though, is this Mega Disney comic that I just picked up at the mall. As with every Mega Disney, it's an 800-page comic full of semi-old comic strips. Some are reprints, while others are debuting in Brazil. And this particular issue contains... wait for it...

A full Portuguese translation of all 4 parts of PK New Era #1: Might and Power.

Let that sink in for a while...

    1. Good for Brazil to be getting that available. Hopefully things will be further spreading across the world.

And thanks for sharing. Always good to know that this series brings something positive to people. How I have my own cherished memories of discovering this comic as a kid...

    2. Sounds like a story to share with the blog readers. Maybe sometime in 2015...?

Now seriously, I'm glad that Brazil got some PK material, even if it's not a translation of the whole series. Seriously, other than the PKNA #1 on Disney Big that I mentioned earlier, there's only one more comic book about PKNA here in Brazil, and it's a compilation of some PKNA stories, including the three "0" introduction stories. It's called "Superduck New Adventures - Origin", and I'm having a hell of a time trying to get my hands on one. Unless I can find that thing in a used bookstore and soon, I'll just have to say "fuck it" and buy it online. (Brazil has always used the name "Superpato", by the way, ever since the vintage days of anti-heroism.)

SDNA Origin is a nice touch, but from the story selection, it doesn't do the whole series justice. Some people around here are missing out on some awesome issues! Where's PKNA #4: Earthquake? Where's #34: Nothing Personal? There's not even one Pk² story available here! As for Pikappa, there's the first two stories and nothing else. I'm glad that the translations exist, but I crave more! I'm a PKer now and I want more PK! Show some love for the continuity before jumping to PK New Era, dammit! Seriously!

All ranting aside, I do hope they bring PK Giant over here. What a blast that would be! Say, are you going to replace the old issues in your blog with the PKG reprints over time or not? Just curious.

    3. I have the notion that I've written my PK experience somewhere at one point. Can't point finger to where exactly... I should have mentioned at more than one occasion that the stories I had in my childhood were "Metamorphosis", "Phase Two" and "Nothing Personal". Got my first story while going on a vacation up the mountains of my country.

Doing PK Giant would be quite pointless. Only thing new there is the cover art, which does looks pretty nice. And it's not like someone's using these magazines to upload better quality scans.

Well, time to focus on Pikappa when 2015 rolls around. It is a completely unnecessary reboot that doesn't match up to the original continuity, but it exists, so I guess I have to finish it.

    4. Vacation up the mountains... That's something I've yet to experience. Every year I go to the same old beach at Santa Catarina, my dear old state of origin at the south region of Brazil. I assume you've never really been to a beach before, right? Or am I sorely mistaken?

PK Giant has no changes to the actual stories? Seriously? Talk about a missed opportunity! They could have at least reworked the drawings of some older stories (*cough* "Evronians" *cough*). Man, what a downer. Oh well. Still crossing my fingers for PKG to hit the Brazilian shelves!

Yeah, I've already read Pikappa 1-20 (your translations, obviously), and I can see why you'd feel pretty "meh" about that thing. It's just not the same. That's the whole point of making a reboot, but still... By the way, is it weird that One's bossy personality in Pikappa reminds me slightly of Omega in PK New Era? Just throwing that out there. (I guess you prophesied Omega's inclusion when you talked about this "Three" in one of your old Bankin' posts, hehe.)

I guess, if someone's gonna do it, it'll have to be you, because no one seems to volunteer in your stead. Oh well. You'll manage like you always do, right? Right. So merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and let's all keep on bankin'. Cheers!

    5. Heh. This summer I was standing at the beach of Miami. Awfully crowded place.

Yes yes, Happy Holidays to all. Let the new year come with lots of stuff.

  2. These flashbacks of Kay K are very cute and a nice touch. They're a good thing to keep doing for every issue involving her family (if we get anymore issues that is). Gotta love Abel, what a precious dad ; u ; Also Arianna is such a cute name, it fits her well, at least now we have a difference between Kay K and Lyla Lay name-wise.

I think I remember seeing this issue promoted on the Topolino facebook page as well.

    Merry Christ-mass!

  3. I do like the existence of the reprint just to see new cover art, meaning more art in general.

Well that's a unique name for Kay K.

  5. To those who don't know yet: In the next week's Topolino there's new DoubleDuck story.

So, there'll be a new DD story from Vito Stabile, who never did any DD or Pikappa story. It's strange, because on Topolino #3113 the preview talked about another DD story, titled "Supersoldier".
